Robert the early years
Robert Thomas’s acting career started in 2004 as a member of the juvenile chorus for Attleborough Players in their production of ‘Alice in Panto Land’. He continued in the juvenile chorus in Beauty and the Beast in 2005, Treasure Island in 2006 and Babes in the Wood in 2007.
Robert achieved grade five Cornet in 2011, however, back in 2006 he recorded a disc with Attleborough Youth Orchestra, performed in concert with Norwich City Concert Band and played with New Buckenham Silver Band.
In 2007, Robert got his first taste for radio whilst giving a radio interview about South Norfolk Council’s first National Playday, (from a child’s perspective) to BBC Radio Norfolk. Robert started playing for the Wymondham Area Schools Brass Band in this year and still enjoys this today, now playing first cornet.
2008
During 2008, after seeing an advert on TV, he decided to audition for the musical Oliver in London. Although not successful he enjoyed the adventure, especially meeting Andrew Lloyd-Webber. Also during this year he became a roaming news reporter for his school and his work appeared on his school website.
In 2008, Robert landed the leading role as Jake in the school production of the ‘Blues Brothers’ before reprising the character and taking the role on tour across Norfolk. Now receiving money for his performances he appeared at The Hoe Down House Revue Bar at Belton nr Great Yarmouth, The Pavilion Theatre on Cromer Pier, Connaught Hall in Attleborough and the Roof Garden at South Norfolk Council. During the summer term Robert enrolled at the Norwich Young Peoples Theatre (NYPT).
2009
In 2009, he appeared in the musical ‘Around the World in Eighty Days’ with NYPT and juvenile chorus for Attleborough Players production of Aladdin. Robert launched his radio career this year with his own radio show broadcast on SNYA Radio. Robert continued to play cornet for the Wymondham Area School Brass Band performing at the Royal Norfolk Show, the Dickensian Christmas Fayre and Centre Parks.
2010
In 2010, he continued his interest in media whilst recording an African film project for Rainbow Nations and a programme for BBC ‘Schools News’. Robert performed in Hiawatha for NYPT and a comedy role in a variety show for Attleborough Players. This year saw Robert change theatre schools, after successfully auditioning for the Young Actors Company Ltd, based in Cambridge he eventually decided to enroll with Theatretrain Norwich.
Robert continued to try different aspects of show business when he hosted (as Master of Ceremonies) the SN Sounds open air rock concert in Diss. This year also saw him perform in the Attleborough Players show, Dr Coppelli, in the supporting role of Millo.
As part of Theatretrain, Robert brought the shoppers at Chapelfield Shopping Mall to a standstill with their renditions of Christmas and pop songs. The year ended with Robert performing in the chorus of the Attleborough Players Christmas variety show.
2011
Robert started 2011 in the chorus of the Attleborough Players pantomime ‘Little Red Riding Hood’ but stared as supporting role as Ted in the school production of ‘One Last Chance’, a sequel to ‘School of Rock’
Robert recorded his second CD, as part of Theatretrain, as well as performing at the Norwich Playhouse in ‘Fear No Evil’. This performance saw him perform a monologue, play the prison guard in Tenko, perform two dances routines and singing pop songs.
Robert designed and hosted his own internet TV game show in 2011 called ‘I know Best’ and he was also the anchorman, for the simultaneous TV and radio broadcast, SNYA re-launch. He interviewed bands, soloists and reality TV stars.
Robert continued to sing and dance his way through the Attleborough Players cabaret show, ‘Blast from the Past’, singing solo songs from 50’s, 60’s 70’s and 80’s.
The year finished with Robert singing and dancing whilst performing ‘Work in Progress’ for Theatretrain and a week later for the Attleborough Players he opened and closed the Christmas Cabaret with Christmas tunes on his cornet and sang solos and duets throughout.
Robert’s music concerts included opening the Wymondham Music Festival, the Wymondham Christmas Fayre and also appearing at Centre Parks for the second time.
