Basil Abbott
Basil Abbott runs Diss Museum and takes every opportunity of dressing up, as John Skelton, John
Betjeman, Thomas Paine, Thomas Manning, or whoever the museum happens to be commemorating. Although he has acted, directed and written for many years he is more often seen in the front row of the audience as a critic. His reviews appear in the local press and the magazine Plays International. He first acted at Diss Grammar School, then at UEA and went on many tours to the Minack Theatre in Cornwall with Cambridge University Players. He has also appeared with several of the local groups, helping them to win awards at festivals. His one-man show Scrape the Beetle: The Flush Hall Murder was first presented at the Lyric Theatre, Belfast and featured a little-known 1915 killing in which his family were slightly involved.
