Mery Lo, SNYA Radio's Sports Correspondent, visited iSport International at their Carleton Rode
office. iSport are the most successful British team in the GP2 championship, and have consistently been at or close to the top of the table. The team are the current GP2 Asia constructor's and driver's champions, claiming the title with one whole race weekend to spare. In the European series, iSport dominated in 2007 winning both titles, and were runners up in 2008.
The team was formed specifically to compete in the new GP2 series. The management have over seventy years of racing experience, which lends iSport great stability. Richard Selwin and Gavin Bickerton-Jones are widely regarded as two of the best engineers in the business, and Paul Jackson has been managing race teams for more than 15 years and is known and respected throughout motorsport for his success, integrity and good humour.
Over the years, iSport have helped the likes of Timo Glock and Bruno Senna make the leap up to Formula 1. Drivers benefit from a great team atmosphere and a professional set-up, which includes a world-class racing simulator alongside our engineering workshop, garage and commercial office in London.
GP2 Series is a form of motor racing introduced in 2005 following the discontinuation of Formula 3000. Designed to make racing affordable for the teams and to make it the perfect training ground for life in Formula One, GP2 has made it mandatory for all of the teams to use the same chassis, engine and tyre supplier so that true driver ability is reflected.
GP2 visited the Bahrain International Circuit in 2005 and 2007; all other races were held in European circuits.
