Radio Series to Boost Youth Employment Skills
Launched During Global Entrepreneurship Week
“Entrepreneurship, enterprise is a different route. You create jobs for others, you create opportunities for others and you can become a legend to your economy
and in your community.”

London, 13 October, 2010 The British Council is marking Global Entrepreneurship Week with the launch of a lively and informative radio series designed to speak directly to young people about getting skills and getting started in today’s tough job market.
From joining a business to starting your own, ‘Skills Up!’ is packed with expert advice, ideas and answers for youth and from youth who have already taken the first steps into the working world.
UK Regional Manager for British Council Skills for Employability, Gail Campbell, said: `This pioneering radio series is in response to the growing interest in enterprise and entrepreneurship skills …young people in UK and worldwide want to open their own business and employers are looking to boost the skills and talent of their workforces. The series will hopefully inspire young people to take their hopes and ideas forward by hearing stories from other young people, employers and organisations which will help them make the most of their potential’.
Skills Up! is part of the British Council’s Skills for Employability project and has been produced in partnership with Equal Access and Like It Is Productions.
The Skills for Employability programme aims to connect training providers, employers, and the Government with young people, giving them access to the UK’s expertise in the field of skills training and opportunity to take forward their bright ideas and make them a reality.
Global Entrepreneurship Week, which takes place between 15 – 21st November 2010, is a worldwide movement of entrepreneurial people, with millions unleashing their enterprising talents across the world.
Tim Campbell, winner of the first series of The Apprentice and featured in Skills Up! says: ““Enterprise isn’t about being super clever or having the best qualifications. It’s about having a good idea. And you never know what a good idea is until you start to articulate it and spread it around”.
