Radio Manager,Josh Worley, now aged 14 years old won the young citizen of the year award at the 2009 NOSCAS and has been shortlisted for the Bernard Matthews Cultural Youth Awards 2010 for his fundraising and dedication to the radio station. He has also donated his prize money to the Radio Station.
South Norfolk Council (SNC) has agreed to hold SNYA radio’s money for them as Josh is not old enough to open a bank account. They (SNC) have also agreed that SNYA Radio can use the two rooms that were formally a disused cellar and a redundant bar rent free for twelve months. These have been renovated, cleared out and decorated by local trades people and businesses. Scole Cabs are advertising SNYA Radio on their taxi.
SNYA Radio’s USP is that it is run by young people for young people. We believe there is only one similar radio station like this based in Leicester.
Stephen Bumfrey, BBC Radio Norfolk, is the Patron for SNYA Radio and whilst waiting for our studio to be installed we have completed four broadcasts for the BBC our last one being New Years Eve. We have visited the BBC Look East studios to see how the local news is linked to the national news with Amelia Reynolds and interviewed Susie Fowler-Watt for SNYA radio in their studios. Our broadcasters have interviewed Stewart White, Bryan Gunn, Julie Reinger, Superintendent Paul Sandford and the Chuckle Brothers. We have also guested on Future Radio in Norwich since our first broadcast on Exchange Radio back in 2008.
SNYA Radio has been given a large exhibition trailer. This is a mobile studio that will be used at The Royal Norfolk Show and other outside broadcasts that we plan to visit throughout 2010.
Last week SNYA Radio received its ‘live lounge’ equipment including mixing desk, microphones, speakers, and equalizer. (So were ready for Robbie next time he visits, ha ha)
We will be receiving two portable studios and three handheld audio recorders in January.
One studio will be used in schools so students can produce and broadcast their own live shows and the other will be used on the Southern Area Children’s Services Camper Van. This will visit villages and market towns to allow young people the opportunity of recording their own shows.
Our plans for 2010 include raising further funds to convert a second room into another studio and developing our live lounge further. Our proposition is to offer recording facilities to young bands at cost or a nil cost basis. This will cost SNYA Radio an estimated £6,000.
SNYA Radio will officially launch in January 2010 with a marketing campaign in newspapers, schools and youth clubs.
We are holding our annual youth awards evening at the Dunston Hall Hotel in June/July 2010. This year we will include youth awards for bands and music, Pupil Referral Unit, Children in care as well as the Norfolk Youth Awards. It is envisaged that we will transport all the award winners, in stretch Limousines, from the Park and Ride to the red carpeted entrance of the hotel as we did last year. This event will cost an estimated £3,500.
In addition, SNYA fund raises for Charities and is delighted to raise money for the Bryan Gunn Appeal at our 2010 events. To assist us we have thirty young people who make up South Norfolk Youth Action, an additional 25 young people who make up South Norfolk Youth Action Radio and 18 young people who make up the Southern Area In Care Council.
SNYA Radio is looking for sponsorship and would welcome enquiries from like minded individuals and/or companies.
